Bridgetown High School

About Our School Bridgetown High School is a great school, with a highly committed and professional staff of approximately thirty people, and around 150 delightful adolescents who come from Bridgetown, Greenbushes, and the surrounding rural areas.

The Bottom Line

There are two core values that underpin the way in which this school approaches learning and its commitment to improving student outcomes.

Seek the Best

All of us aim to seek the best in and from ourselves and in and from others. We look for the best in people and work to help others achieve the best that they can.

Respect

We respect each other - regardless of religion, ethnic background, political beliefs, disability, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation. Showing respect to others means that the way we treat students models the way we wish them to treat each other and the staff.

We also take the view that students cannot learn unless they feel safe. Thus, we teach and follow the two main themes of Protective Behaviours.

Theme 1: Everyone has the right to feel safe all of the time.

Theme 2: Nothing is so awful that you can't talk about it with someone.

Each year, all year 8 students are taught about Protective Behaviours and all year 9 and 10 students revisit the teachings.

All staff are taught about Protective Behaviours and are expected to reinforce these key themes in all their interactions with the students.

Student Achievement

The above core values and themes are the basis of our key aim that all students LEARN while they are with us. We are totally focussed on improving student outcomes.

The commitment to improve student outcomes is embodied, in part, in the school's Common Principles, in its middle school philosophy, close staff-student relationships, and the teachers' highly professional approach to learning and teaching.

The school's ethos, philosophy, culture and processes are the culmination of many factors and have been developed collaboratively over time.

Learning is what this school is all about and we have high expectations that students will use their minds well, will achieve to the best of their ability and will strive for personal excellence.

Learning how to learn is valued. Students are encouraged to become analytical, critical and creative thinkers as much as they are required to learn content.

Students are encouraged to become active citizens and leaders within the school community.

Students at Bridgetown High School are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning outcomes, their behaviour and their positive interaction with others.

Teachers at Bridgetown High School are responsible for ensuring that they work with parents to get the best possible results from each student. Teachers are responsible for informing parents of the progress their child is making and for seeking the best from each student they teach.

Everyone at Bridgetown High School has the right to learn and a responsibility to value the learning and humanity of others.
